University of Malakand,Chakdara(NWFP)

bout the University

University of Malakand is one of the public Sector universities of North West Frontier Province (N.W.F.P), Pakistan. The University was established through a charter issued by the Governor N-W.F.P. on August 30th, 2001 and is recognized by the Higher Education Commission (formerly UGC), Islamabad. The University has been working sincerely towards the attainment of excellence as well as character-building; and to inculcate in its students the spirit of inquiry, research, dedication and zeal, so that they will be able to bring prosperity in the country. In this way we can walk along the developed nations with honour and pride. With dedication and devotion, we can revive the memories of the city of Cordova, known as Madinat-ul-Ilm in Muslim Spain, which remained the cradle of knowledge and research for centuries Europe also looked up to it for the acquisition of knowledge.

Thirst for knowledge has been spoken of as the last infirmity of noble minds. Great minds can give up all but not their yearning for knowledge. When the ruling and the ruled both have the same feelings and the same thirst for knowledge it gives birth to a strong desire which ultimately culminates in the formation of great institutions. University of Malakand, the dream, the most needed urgently required necessity of the people of the area now exists in reality. It is actually one of the highest achievements of the genius of its founding father, Ex-governor N-W.F.P, Lt. G. (Rt.) Syed iftikhar Hussain Shah. He laid brick after brick to build this palace; passed law after law to frame a mighty code provide it with a solid foundation. To establish a University at Malakand was really a task. It is said that behind every event, there is present a intelligent mind which guides and directs the affairs. It can be said without hesitation that behind all those events, which have led to establishment and stentorian Prof. Dr. Jehandar Shah. He is the person rightly chosen for the right job. Under his thorough guidance the university staff is thriving to design the future of our nation. No doubt, many obstacles are there, but they melt before their courage thus making their path smooth. But those paragons should never be forgotten who worked all the way for the establishment of this splendid beacon of light, which will always be showering the rays of wisdom and knowledge upon the people will widen their hearts and minds.

The demand for the university in Malakand Division had been a felt need since 1972 but due to political polarization and “ inter Districts Antagonism” the idea could not be materialized till 2001. Various political parties had their own interests and every member tired to seek the credit for himself. Credit goes to iftikhar hussain Shah who gave the idea of establishing a University at present site. After consultation with the PIDC high-ups, he formally announced the establishment of the university in August 2001. in this regard, the services of his advisor Prof. Dr. Lutfullah Kakakahel will never be forgotten. After the announcement some legal points were raised by the provincial law Department regarding establishment a University in the PATA (Provincially Administered Tribal Area). The issue was resolved by the then governor N.W.F.P by recommending the case to the president of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan who was kind enough in allowing the University through a presidential Order / Regulation. Hence, in a sense this is the only University in Pakistan chartered / established by the highest seats of power in the country. The provincial Government, through a Gazette Notification No P-III dated 27.10.2001 (Extraordinary) formally announced a University for Malakand Division on the Premises of the defunct D.F.I.C. at Chakdara.

Balochistan University of Engineering and Technology(Balochistan)

Introduces the birth of BUET and its location

The Birth of BUET
The province of Balochistan , with its vast and diverse area about 0.347 million sq. Km and with scattered population of about 4.3 millions, spread over rugged and harsh topology with scarce means of communications and with hardly 5 inches of annual precipitation and limited irrigation options, has remained neglected and isolated from the main land for a long time.

With a view to bringing it at part, socially and economically with the rest of the country, the Government has undertaken a large number of development schemes, success of which was not forthcoming primarily because the province did not have any Engineering college of its own.

A limited number of students from the province were nominated for admission in different Engineering Institutions in other provinces of Pakistan which was not adequate to meet the growing need for engineers in the country. Besides, the socio-economic and educational constraints prevailing in the province, discouraged the large number of students from getting education in Engineering Institutions in other provinces.

Over long span of time it was therefore, seriously realized that an adequate education leading to graduation in engineering should be imparted in Balochistan as well.

The Federal Government, taking into consideration these factors, announced the establishment of the then Balochistan Engineering College at Khuzdar in 1973-74. The project of the college was given administrative approval by ECNEC in 1977. After passing through different phases of construction, the college was in a position to start its First year engineering classes in 1987-88 in the disciplines of Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering respectively. The institution was subsequently raised to the level of University after seven years of its successful performance, in the later half of 1994.

Beaconhouse National University(Punjab)

Introduction to BNU

In this immensely competitive and dynamic world, qualitatively superior education is an imperative for success. Over the years, higher education has assumed a pivotal role in the development of the required acumen of the students to better equip them to meet the emerging challenges. Universities and higher education institutions are thriving social and cultural centres with much to offer students of any age, nationality or social background. A modern university aims to provide its students with a wide array of courses and degrees to choose from, according to their embedded career interests and aptitudes. At BNU, we offer our students broad-based education in which a student studies a variety of different subjects in order to gain a better working knowledge of the world around him or herself, thus preparing them for a lifetime of opportunities and challenges.

BNU is the first Liberal Arts University of Pakistan. Chartered by the Government of Punjab, the Beaconhouse National University (BNU), was established in 2003 for the purpose of imparting education with a modern, rational, course content while ensuring that the history and culture of Pakistani society are respected. BNU is planned as a non‑profit, private university disseminating learning and encouraging research in diverse areas where the essential focus of the programs offered has been determined by the type of the work force identified for the future economic, business, academic, cultural and technological advancement of the country. As such, BNU offers students a range of subject areas which are of immense relevance to the country’s economy.

Over the years, Liberal Arts education has assumed a vital role. One armchair philosopher once said, "When the only tool you have is a hammer, you tend to see every problem as a nail." All knowledge is one, a unified wholeness, and every field of study is but a piece or an angle or a way of partitioning this knowledge. Thus, to see how one's chosen area fits into the whole, to see the context of one's study, we at BNU believe, liberal education is not merely desirable, but necessary.

The diverse body of knowledge that a student gains at BNU, together with the tools of examination and analysis that one learns to use, will enable him or her to develop opinions, attitudes, values, and beliefs, based not upon authority or ignorance, whim, or prejudice, but upon ones own worthy evaluation of argument and evidence. We foster the development of an active engagement with knowledge, and not just the passive reception of facts.

At BNU, the knowledge disseminated will help you learn new subjects by one of the most common methods of learning--analogy. As George Herbert noted, people are best taught by using something they are familiar with, something they already understand, to explain something new and unfamiliar. The more you know and are familiar with, the more you can know, faster and more easily. Many times the mind will create its own analogies, almost unconsciously, to teach itself about the unfamiliar by means of the familiar. The education at BNU creates an improvement of perception and understanding.

This is done by a number of unique, innovative practices at BNU:

An academic format which encourages the student to read across the curriculum allowing for cross registration in courses offered at Schools other than the one the student is registered in. These courses may be taken as minors or electives.

The University underscores the importance of the creative and performing arts which form an integral part of any liberal arts education. Open workshops and seminars are offered where students interact with scholars and practitioners of international repute.

Each student works with an academic advisor who helps design a program of study most suited to the individual student’s talent and is also available for personal guidance throughout the student’s stay at the University.

A system of education in which students learn in small, interactive class sessions.

A system of student evaluation based on frequent written assignments and research projects rather than a traditional method of examination.

At Beaconhouse National University, education is enriched through a free exchange of ideas and debate which is expertly guided by qualified faculty. Most courses are intensive and year long in which students are encouraged to question assumptions, listen to diverse opinions and challenge convention. This strategy is further developed through disciplined and motivated work on the student’s part and the evaluation of individual progress through written reports and ongoing interaction between students and teachers.

The University is fully cognizant of the fact that the formative years of a young adult’s life i.e. the years spent at university must be enriched through a variety of experiences, both within and outside the classroom. Study tours therefore, form a regular feature of University life and serve as a means of research and exposure to life in other regions of the country and varied socio-economic groups.

BNU is a non-profit, apolitical, non-sectarian, equal-opportunity institution offering undergraduate and graduate programmes in modern disciplines, many of which are not offered anywhere else in Pakistan.
