Al-Khair University (AJK) is a chartered University established in 1994 under an enactment of the Legislative Assembly of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir. It is the First private University in Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Fourth of its kind in Pakistan.

Promotion of Professional, Scientific and Technological Education

The main objective for the establishment of the University in private sector was to supplement the public sector education, which had reached saturation point in the spreading of professional, scientific and technological education in the country.

Being a manifestation of unique perceptions this Institution envisages excellence in academic, scientific and professional sphere.


Full-Fledged University

The Act stipulates that the University shall be a full-fledged University in all respects to provide for instructions and teachings in such branches of learning as it may deem fit and to make provisions for the advancement and dissemination of knowledge in such manner as it may determine: prescribe courses of studies, mode and methods of examinations as it may determine: to affiliate itself or associate with other institutions of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan or any other country and to establish camp offices and campuses, facilities in Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Pakistan or abroad.

HEC Recognition

The Higher Education Commission, Government of Pakistan, recognizes the Degrees of Al-Khair University as equivalent to corresponding Degrees of the other Universities of Pakistan. The University is a full-fledged member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU). A large number of students of the University have found employment abroad and many are pursuing higher studies in foreign universities.

Grant Attracts Minorities to STEM Fields

The University of Texas at El Paso has received a five-year grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for nearly $2.9 million. The “Science for a Sustainable Future: Developing the Next Generation of Diverse Scientists” award will provide fellowships to minority graduate students in NSF-supported disciplines such as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The doctoral students will build their science and teaching portfolios and bring their leading research findings into K-12 learning settings in an effort to inspire the next generation of scientists.
