University of Gujrat(Punjab)

History


University of Gujrat has been established under Act IX of 2004 by Government of Punjab on February 23, 2004 to cater for the higher education needs of the population of Central Punjab . This University will provide facilities of higher education to the students of the surrounding areas, particularly Gujrat, Sialkot , Gujranwala and Wazirabad districts at affordable cost. It will also promote research and development culture in the area.

Physical Area & Facilities:-

The new campus of University of Gujrat (UOG), is being built over 1000 kanals, about 12 Km away from Gujrat city in a pollution free scenic landscape. This is a major Public Sector University funded by Govt. of the Punjab to promote higher education in Pakistan . Renowned architects are architects are artistically designing purpose built class rooms, state of the art, digital library, conference halls, multi-storyed building for various departments of science and technology, social sciences, humanities, arts, crafts and product design, engineering, information technology and management.Well equipped laboratories, video conferencing facility, horticulturally designed lush green lawns, separate hostels for boys and girls, play grounds, swimming pool, modern residences for teaching and other staff members are being completed.
Following the HEC guidelines,UOG has already started BS(Hons) 4 year degree programmes under the semester system in social sciences, basic sciences, information technology, arts, crafts and product design. UOG is also starting admissions for Masters Programmes in various disciplines from January 2007.An inter- disciplinary approach has been adopted offering specialization in various subjects. It is being reinforced by class work consisting of discussions, presentations, small field research projects, community work apart from class instruction. The distinct approach to higher education offers great challenge both to faculty and students.
